1. Introductory
a) This Data Protection & Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”, “Policy”) explains how MySGTutors (“MySGTutors”, “we”, “our”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your Personal Data.
b) “User”, “you” refers to any person who uses this website or engages MySGTutors’ services. “Tutor” refers to persons who register or use our website with the intention to register as a tutor or receive tuition job opportunities. “Tutee” refers to persons who contact MySGTutors (via the website or any offline means such as phone, SMS, WhatsApp, social media, or others) to request a tutor or make enquiries related to tuition.
c) By accessing or using our website or services, you acknowledge that this constitutes an agreement between you and MySGTutors and you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your Personal Data in accordance with this Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, please discontinue use of our website and services.
d) We comply with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) and other applicable laws. Where required by Singapore law or other applicable legislation, MySGTutors will cooperate with the relevant authorities.
2. Collection
“Personal Data” means any data, whether true or not, about an individual who can be identified from that data or from that data and other information to which we have or are likely to have access. This includes data related to your use of our website or payments made via our website.
Automatic collection may include: IP address, browser type/version, device identifiers, pages visited, time spent on pages, clickstream data, and interactions—collected via cookies and similar technologies.
Manual/Direct collection may include: details you provide in registration and request forms, calls, messages, emails, and other communications with us. Any information sent directly to us is considered “collected” unless you expressly state otherwise.
Third-party data. If you provide Personal Data of other persons (e.g., a child or family member), you confirm you have obtained their consent to disclose their data to us and to represent them in relation to this Policy.
NRIC policy. In line with PDPA advisories, as of 1 September 2019 we do not collect NRIC numbers from tutors or clients. Any legacy NRIC records have been deleted.
3. Use
We may use your Personal Data to:
- operate, maintain, and improve our website and services;
- create and manage user accounts and profiles;
- facilitate tutor–tutee matching and service fulfilment;
- analyse usage for service enhancement and troubleshooting;
- prevent, detect, and investigate fraud or unlawful activities;
- investigate breaches of our Terms & Conditions or this Policy;
- protect our rights, property, users, and the public;
- send service notices and administrative messages;
- send marketing messages about services that may interest you (you may opt out at any time via the unsubscribe link or by contacting us).
DNC compliance. We comply with the Do Not Call (DNC) provisions. Only users who engage our services or voluntarily provide contact information may receive marketing communications. You may unsubscribe at any time via SMS, email, or other provided means.
4. Display of Tutor Profiles on Website & Marketing Collaterals
As a tuition agency, we match students with tutors. To facilitate matching, we may display tutor information on our website and marketing collaterals (online and offline). Information that may be publicly visible includes: first name, age, profile photo, gender, ethnicity, teaching preferences, academic qualifications, preferred locations, tutor category, and teaching experience.
Information not publicly displayed includes: email address, phone number, last name, bank details, postal code, and uploaded documents.
Tutors are informed during registration and may set their profile to private if they do not wish their information to be used in advertisements.
5. Geographic Information
For tutees, we may collect geographic information (e.g., postal code or address) to source suitable tutors. We may display an indicative location on our platforms or third-party sites to aid matching. We will take measures not to reveal your full address, though this cannot be guaranteed. If you prefer a placeholder location (e.g., nearby landmark), please inform us.
6. Sharing of Data During the Matching Process
To comply with PDPA, we implement the following safeguards:
- If a tutee requests proof of a tutor’s qualifications before confirmation, we will first obtain the tutor’s express consent before sharing documents.
- Prior to confirmed assignment, communications may be facilitated via conference call or mediated channels to avoid sharing personal contact details.
- Once an assignment is expressly confirmed by both parties with a scheduled first lesson, we may share necessary contact details (phone, email, address) between tutor and tutee solely for liaison.
- In the event of disputes, MySGTutors will not disclose further personal information unless required by law.
7. Third-Party Actions & Disclosures
- We may disclose Personal Data to third parties where necessary:
- pursuant to lawful requests by government or law enforcement authorities;
- to investigate potential violations or technical issues;
- to enforce applicable laws, regulations, and our policies;
- to payment processors and financial institutions to process transactions.
- We share only what is necessary for the third party to perform its services and take reasonable steps to ensure such parties protect your data and use it only for the stated purposes. Where data is transferred overseas, appropriate transfer mechanisms will be used as required by law.
- We do not share your Personal Data with third parties for their marketing without your consent. You may withdraw consent to third-party marketing at any time.
- Our website may contain links to third-party websites or apps with their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.
8. Retention of Information
We retain Personal Data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, and to satisfy legal, regulatory, accounting, or reporting requirements.
